Coverage Basics
Insurance Terms, in Plain Language
A few terms come up often when you use your insurance. Here is what they mean for your visit at Right Care Family Medicine.
Referral
Some plans require a referral before you see a specialist. Right Care is a primary care practice, so you don’t need a referral to see us.
Prior Authorization
Certain tests and procedures need approval from your plan first. Ask us if you’re unsure whether something needs approval.
Copay, Deductible & Coinsurance
Your copay is a set fee per visit. Your deductible is what you pay before coverage starts. Coinsurance is your percentage after that.
Out-of-Network Benefits
If a provider isn’t in your plan’s network, your plan may cover less of the visit. Call us to confirm your coverage before you book.
Before Your Visit
Four Steps to a Smooth Check-In
A little preparation helps us verify your coverage quickly and start your visit on time.
STEP 01
Check your coverage
Call 919-299-9975 to confirm your plan before scheduling. We’re happy to verify your coverage.
STEP 02
Bring your card & photo ID
Bring your current insurance card and a photo ID. If your insurance has changed recently, bring the newest card.
STEP 03
Bring your medication list
Include prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements, or bring the bottles.
STEP 04
Complete forms online
Save about 15 minutes in the waiting room by completing new patient forms in the patient portal before you arrive.
Cash-Pay Patients
Transparent Cash-Pay Options
If you don’t have insurance, prefer not to use it, or have a high-deductible plan, we offer transparent cash-pay rates. Pricing is shared up front.
Cash-pay patients receive the same care, the same time with Dr. Wright, and the same access to the patient portal as anyone else. Ask our front desk for current self-pay pricing when you schedule.
Your right to a Good Faith Estimate
Under the No Surprises Act, patients who are uninsured or not using insurance can receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges before scheduled care. Ask us for yours, or visit cms.gov/nosurprises.
Payment Options
Flexible Ways to Pay
We accept payment online through the patient portal, by phone, by mail, or in person at the time of your visit.
Credit & Debit Cards
Major credit and debit cards are accepted in the office, by phone, or online through the portal.
HSA & FSA Cards
Use your Health Savings or Flexible Spending Account card for eligible visits and services.
Checks
Checks are accepted in person or by mail.
Pay Online
Pay your bill anytime through the secure patient portal.
Understanding Your Bill
How to Read Your Statement
After your visit, your insurance is billed first. Once they process the claim, you’ll receive an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your insurer showing what they paid and what you may owe. A bill from our office will follow if there’s a remaining balance.
If something on your bill doesn’t look right, please call us. Most billing questions can be resolved in a single phone call, and if there’s an error, we’ll fix it.

FAQ
Insurance & Billing Questions
Can’t find what you’re looking for? Call our office at 919-299-9975 and ask for the billing team.
Do you accept my insurance?
We accept most major insurance plans, including Aetna, Ambetter, Amerihealth Caritas, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana, Medicaid, Medicare, Tricare, UnitedHealthcare, and Wellcare. Because plans vary, call us at 919-299-9975 to confirm your specific plan before scheduling.
Do I need a referral to be seen?
No. As a primary care practice, we don’t require referrals. If your insurance plan requires you to designate a primary care physician, Dr. Wright can fill that role.
What if I don’t have insurance?
We offer transparent cash-pay rates, shared up front. Ask our front desk for current self-pay pricing when you schedule. You also have the right to request a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges.
When will I get a bill?
Your insurance is billed first. After they process the claim, you’ll receive an Explanation of Benefits from your insurer, and a bill from our office will follow if there’s a remaining balance.
Why did I get a bill after my insurance paid?
Your plan may have applied part of the charge to your deductible, copay, or coinsurance. Compare your statement with your Explanation of Benefits, and call us if something doesn’t look right.
How can I pay my bill?
Online through the patient portal, by phone, by mail, or in person. We accept major credit cards, debit cards, HSA/FSA cards, and checks.
