Adolescent & Teen Care in Raleigh, NC

Adolescent and teen care in Raleigh, NC, is a particular passion at Right Care Family Medicine. The teenage years can be a strange middle ground: too old for a pediatrician, but not quite ready to be an adult patient. We meet teens where they are, with privacy, respect, and real conversations, bringing parents in at the right time.

What Is Adolescent Care?

Adolescent care is primary care designed for patients age 10 and up as they move from childhood toward adulthood. Adolescent visits at Right Care are designed to do two things at once: provide thorough medical care and help teens build the habit of advocating for their own health.

What Adolescent Care Looks Like Here

  • Annual physicals and well-teen visits for ages 10 and up
  • Sports and camp physicals, with same-day forms when needed
  • Adolescent mental health screening: anxiety, depression, school stress, and sleep
  • Acne management, for both first-line and persistent cases
  • Reproductive and sexual health: confidential, judgment-free counseling and care
  • Vaccinations, including HPV, meningitis, Tdap, COVID, flu, and travel vaccines
  • Concussion follow-up and return-to-play guidance
  • Nutrition, weight, and body image conversations, with care, not pressure
  • Transitions to college, including pre-college physicals, vaccines, and continuity-of-care plans

Care Teens Want to Come Back To

Adolescence is a teachable moment. The habits teens build now around sleep, nutrition, mental health, sexual health, substance use, and how they advocate for themselves during doctor visits will follow them into adulthood. Dr. Wright treats these visits as the high-value encounters they are: unhurried, respectful, and direct.

We talk to teens like adults-in-progress. We answer their questions honestly. And we work with parents to support what their teen is going through, without undermining the trust the teen needs to feel in the room.

A Note on Confidentiality

North Carolina law allows minors to consent to certain types of care without parental notification, particularly around mental health, reproductive health, and substance use. We explain those rules clearly to both parents and teens, and we always encourage open conversation between them.

Privacy, Respect, and the Right Amount of Parent

01

We’ll Start Together

For younger or first-time adolescent patients, the visit usually begins with everyone in the room, parents included, gathering history and talking through any concerns.

02

A Few Minutes Just for the Teen

We make space for private time between Dr. Wright and the teen, a standard practice in adolescent medicine, so teens can ask questions they might not raise in front of a parent.

03

Wrap Up Together

We bring everyone back together to review the plan, schedule any follow-up, and answer questions. Parents are partners here.

Why Choose Right Care Family Medicine for Teen Care?

Teen visits often connect with annual physicals and immunizations, women’s health, and travel vaccines for students heading abroad. Related conditions we treat include anxiety and depression, menstrual concerns and PCOS, asthma and allergies, and skin infections and rashes.

Questions From Parents & Teens

What’s the youngest age you see?

We see adolescents starting at age 10. It’s old enough to begin building the kind of relationship that supports the teen years, and young enough to be there from the very beginning of them.

Some parts of the visit are confidential by design. North Carolina law allows minors to consent to certain types of care without parental notification, particularly around mental health, reproductive health, and substance use. We explain those rules clearly to both you and your teen, and we always encourage open conversation between teens and their parents.

We don’t take walk-ins, but we make every effort to fit sports physicals in quickly, particularly during back-to-school season. Call us as soon as you have your form and we’ll get you in promptly.
